Powered Access Services specialise in the hire of powered
access platforms across the UK, providing equipment that is safe, efficient
and cost effective. We are committed to delivering a level of service
that exceeds our customers expectations and provides excellent value for
money. We are pioneers of hydraulic access equipment and have many years
experience. We have an enviable reputation for a consistently high standard
of customer service. We operate from a network of hire depots across the
UK with a head office in Ellistown, Leicestershire. We hire our equipment
to a wide range of customers, large and small. These include:- Highway
maintenance companies, Local authorities, CCTV security firms Sign maintenance
and installation companies TV & Film Production companies and studios
Construction companies and associated trades and telecommunication. We
can conduct a full site survey consultation to help you decide on the
most appropriate equipment to use. This is a free service. We can provide
fully qualified personnel to operate the platform for you. Alternatively
you may prefer to hire on a self-drive basis. We can offer IPAF operator
training that meets all recognised industry standards. This can be of
benefit if you want to hire equipment for the long term or on a regular
basis. If horizontal reach as well as vertical elevation is required,
then a self propelled boom may be the answer. The work platform is mounted
on a telescopic or articulating boom and many can be manoeuvered whilst
elevated. PAS’s fleet of self propelled booms can reach heights of up
to 27.7m and outreaches of up to 23.4m. As in the case of scissor lifts,
electric and diesel options are available. A scissor lift takes its name
from the scissor-type mechanism upon which the work platform is mounted.
Scissor lifts can be electric or diesel powered, and range from light,
narrow machines intended for indoor use, through to larger units for outdoor
work. Scissor lifts generally have a larger working area than other types
of access equipment, and models in Powered Access Platform fleet can handle
a payload of up to 680kg. Many also have extendable decks, giving added
space for tools and equipment. Although there has always been a general
duty for employers to ensure that their employees are adequately trained,
recent legislation requires that all operators of work equipment, including
powered access equipment, are properly trained. As a consequence many
people are asking suppliers for evidence of specific training which can
be provided by your operators holding either the IPAF powered access license
(PAL card) or the CITB CTA/ICC card. We at Powered Access Services have
a long history of training our own operators to an exceedingly high standard
and we are able to make this expert service available to you, our customers.
PAS Access is accredited as both an IPAF and CITB CTA/ICC training provider. The
two schemes, IPAF and CTA, are complementary, each having particular benefits
depending on your requirements, with the CTA/ICC having the additional
benefit of being the first step on the route to an NVQ for those who require
it. Training, can be undertaken at one of our regional training centres
or at our own premises, by our very experienced and qualified trainers.
Our standard training includes: Practical Work Trainees are not only shown
how to use the machine but are trained to use it effectively, making them
safe, capable and confident operators. Theory Work Classroom training
includes machine theory and practical examples, backed up by emphasis
on the importance of health and safety. New Genie Scissor GS Lifts are

The launch of IPAF's Rental is just one initiative aimed at ensuring that
IPAF's platform rental company members are in first class shape to offer
the construction industry all the help it needs in preparing for the introduction
of the new Work at Height Regulations. Addressing IPAF's 2004 Access Summit
in London at the end of April, who heads the HSE Falls from Height Team,
underlined that industry is expected to make a significant, practical
contribution to the new Work at Height Regulations. In refusing to be
drawn on questions of detail, such as "when can ladders still be used?",
he made it plain that industry itself can make its own guidance as specific
as it feel necessary. He stressed that the Regulations are intended as
the high level framework on which industry needs to build its own detail.
In setting out the 'goal-setting' methodology in absolute clarity, he
also threw down a "challenge " to IPAF and its members as the experts
in the application of platforms to put their experience behind helping
all sectors of industry improve their work at height practices. Introducing
the move, IPAF highlighted the impact that expects the introduction of
the award to have: "The IPAF award is a major initiative from IPAF which
will give users of powered access an independently audited quality mark."
Because the award is based on independent assessment, IPAF will offer
IPAF's rental company members the opportunity to highlight their high
standards of service. Included in the initial (pre-approval) and subsequent
annual audits will be aspects that relate to customer service, safety,
staff training, contract terms and machine inspection. IPAF has the aim
of further improving the level and scope of the service that the powered
access rental sector can provide its customers. Whilst all IPAF members
need to conform to high standards of operation, the award of IPAF will
endorse a top-flight level of service. The regular audit confirms to customers
that the high standard is being reached by an individual rental company.
It also reinforces the commitment to service quality by those companies
that have the through the discipline of regular assessment and feedback
against which they can measure, and further improve, their levels of service
and support. Portable Material Lift offers 24 ft working height. Superlift
